What the … ?
What in the wide world of sports? Platteville did it again?! For the second year in a row, the Pioneers walk out of Kolf with a WIAC tournament quarterfinal victory. Jeez, was Lisa Bell good for Platteville.
I jinxed it with my predictions, I guess. That’s as good of an explanation as any for what happened tonight in the Titans’ four-game loss to Platteville. I just can’t comprehend the complete collapse in most phases of Oshkosh’s play after that first game.
All I know for sure is that’s not the Titans I’ve watched for the last four years.
I suppose they will now get plenty of rest before their regional opener on Nov. 8. Something tells me they won’t get a kind draw, either. They had a wide margin for error as far as getting an NCAA bid. Now the committee will decide how far they pushed the margin. No matter what happened tonight, Oshkosh was going to be in the toughest regional in the nation. They were probably going to have to beat Whitewater or Carthage to get to the dance anyway. Now, they’ll probably have to beat both of them to win the regional. Not impossible.
Anyway, after this one it’s probably best to turn the page, pack the bags for a three-day trip and wait for the regionals to be announced this Sunday.
Turns out the highlight of the night was the announcement of the all-conference teams. I’ll give that its own post tomorrow, when I’m done scratching my head.
The other WIAC home teams all won their openers. The WIAC tourney title goes through Williams Center in Whitewater.
Whitewater swept Stout. La Crosse swept Stevens Point. Eau Claire beat Superior in four.
