West Virginia Football 9/20/25 vs Kansas Preview

S. Samek

Big 12 conference play begins for West Virginia as they head to Kansas this week to play the Jayhawks. Let’s preview the action.

West Virginia is coming off a big win over rival Pitt in the Backyard Brawl 31-24 to improve to 2-1. In the win Nicco Marchiol went 19/25 passing for 192 yards and a touchdown. Tye Edwards rushed 25 times for 141 yards and three touchdowns. Rodney Gallagher III caught seven passes for 61 yards and Grayson Barnes had a touchdown reception.

Darrian Lewis had an interception and eight total tackles. The defense combined for six sacks with Edward Vesterinen recording two of them.

Kansas is also 2-1 heading into their Big 12 conference opener. They fell to Missouri in their rivalry matchup 42-31. Jalon Daniels went 18 of 30 passing for 223 yards, two touchdowns and an interception. He also ran for 25 yards and a touchdown.

Danieles has performed pretty well against West Virginia. In three games he’s completed 55 of 86 passes for 652 yards, five touchdowns and three interceptions. He has also rushed for 106 yards and a touchdown on 31 carries. Danieles is a dual threat for sure. Can he be stopped? I would say if he can be West Virgina stands a good chance of winning.

West Virginia won the 2024 meeting 32-28. This should be a good test for both teams in the conference opener. I think it’s going to be close 21-17 Kansas is my pick.

West Virgina announced the jersey for this week to be white helmets, white jerseys, and blue pants, while Kansas will wear black alternate jerseys. Kickoff is at 6 PM be sure to tune in to the action.
