West Region Rankings

Still trying to feel my way around when I should put out weekly items and how things should be formatted. Ricky has published his rankingsso it seems logical I should stay in step with my leader. Heck, I’m going to even steal his format.

My rank, (my preseason rank, AVCA preseason rank), record, key results last week1 (1, 7). Claremont-Mudd-Scripps 3-1 W: UT Dallas; Brockport; Wis-Eau Claire; L: Millikin. 2 (2, 14). Trinity 3-1 W: Cal Lutheran; Wis-Oshkosh, L: Calvin. 3 (4, 6). Cal Lutheran 2-2 W: Wis-Oshkosh, L: Calvin; Trinty. 4 (3, 5). Southwestern 4-0 W: Elmhurst. 5 (5, 9). Colorado College 4-0 W: Augustana; Berry. 6 (NR, NR). UT Tyler 4-0 W: Susquehanna; UMass-Boston. 7 (8, NR). Mary Hardin Baylor 4-0 W: Susquehanna; UMass-Boston. 8 (NR, NR). Pacific Lutheran 4-0 W: St. Thomas; Clarkson.Dropped Out: No. 6 UT Dallas (2-2); No.7 Chapman (2-2).

It’s too early to apply selection criteria and treat this like the West RAC will so I’m going with who I think are the best teams. The UTT, UMHB, Pac Lu and La Verne ordering was a tough one. You could say the La Verne victory over UTD was the most significant but with the major injuries facing UTD that simply wasn’t the team that went to the West Regional Finals. I also wanted to show some love to the Northwest Conference and credit is due to Pac Lu this week. I dropped SU despite their 4-0 start simply because I feel Trinity and Cal Lu should be next to each other. Can’t lie, the CMS loss to Millikin has me worried, but I still believe they are the best team in the region. We should have a lot more clarity after next weekend’s matches.
