West Region Rankings
Please note that the W/L record is in division record. The NAIA and DII matches were throwing me and I’m easily confused so I eliminated them as they are not part of the primary criteria for selection. This ranking is still a mix of what I think and the primary criteria used for selection. Once again, I’m lagging in the SOS numbers as the NCAA updates later in the day.
My rank, (my Week 3 rank, AVCA Week 3 rank), record, key results last week1 (1, 3). Colorado College 14-0 W: [None]. 2 (3, 5). Trinity 13-2 W: Southwestern. 3 (2, 2). Southwestern 13-1 W: [None]; L: Trinity. 4 (6, NR). Chapman 10-3 W: Claremont M-S. 5 (4, 7). Claremont-Mudd-Scripps 9-4 W: La Verne; L: Chapman. 6 (5, 14). La Verne 9-2 W: [None]; L: Claremont M-S. 7 (8, NR). Mary Hardin Baylor 14-1 W: UT Dallas. 8 (7, NR). Whittier 8-4 W: [None]; L: Cal Lutheran.Dropped Out: [None]
In the end I went with the same teams as last week but in a slightly different order. Number 9 is probably Pacific Lutheran but that loss earlier in the season to Whittier really hurts them in a pure West Region ranking.
Colorado College remains my top team for the second week in a row, but they will face Trinity this weekend as the SCAC completes the first half of their conference schedule. (They will also face Southwestern so a big test for all three teams.) Trinity obviously moves ahead of SU with their head to head victory this past weekend, and if I had to choose I think they take down CC this weekend to claim the top spot next week. (So, why isn’t Trinity my #1? Criteria, grasshopper. CC has a stronger W/L, SOS and then you throw-in that common opponent advantage due to Calvin and I have no choice. Even if Trinity wins next week, the criteria might still favor CC.) Southwestern is a struggle to place for me right now but I think on a neutral court, they would beat Chapman. Speaking of the Panthers, they jump 2 spots with their win over CMS. I think CMS will return the favor later in the year but for right now enjoy it! CMS slots in nicely, for now, at number 5 followed by La Verne. UMHB was the other team hard to place but I moved them up a spot based on feel. I think they are pretty even with the La Verne squad right now and the Whittier loss to Cal Lutheran shook me a bit.
