Director: Steven C. Miller

Starring: Frank Grillo, Katrina Law, Ilfenesh Hadera

Two scientists try to stop a mutation that turns people into werewolves after being touched by a super-moon the year before.

So, it appears I’m in the minority here, but I absolutely freakin’ loved ‘Werewolves’! Apart from the werewolves, this is an entertaining action-packed movie with loads of gunfire, explosions and stunts. Not bad for a low budget movie. The werewolves might not look the greatest, but I still salute the creators for the costumes, and not using CGI.

The events in the film take place a year after a super moon turned over a billion people into werewolves, with the moon apparently affecting human DNA. The entire film is set during one night – the night of another super moon. Residents are urged to stay indoors, protect themselves, and not go into the moonlight.

Frank Grillo stars as Wesley, the Rapid Response Team Leader. Katrina Law stars as Amy, a scientist trying to find a cure for the affected. When an experiment goes horribly wrong, Amy and Wesley find themselves on the run, fighting for their lives. Wesley is trying desperately to get back to his family, who in turn are also fighting off a werewolf attack.

With non-stop action there truly never is a dull moment. ‘Werewolves’ is worth watching just for the action alone. I also enjoyed the fact the film concentrated more on the action instead of werewolf gore. Frank Grillo once again makes a credible hero. (Man, I love it when he takes his shirt off. All those gorgeous muscles…!)

The only thing that bothered me about the film, was the lack of security measurements during the experiment on the werewolves. I understand all hell broke loose and things malfunctioned, but still, they simply didn’t take enough precautions. Apart from that, I really loved this movie! I also thought the film’s score was really good.

Would I watch it again? Yes, for sure!
