Welcome to My New Website
Happy 2021 everybody and welcome to my new website: www.thevolleyballanalyst.wordpress.com. It is still a work in progress but what have I done in that month since I took the plunge and moved to wordpress?
Created a New Look
I obviously had a blank canvas so I had to come up with a new look. After some redesigns, I am largely happy with the way it looks now. I one thing I was happy with is I was able to have static background photos when you scroll down. I always wanted to have that the first time I saw it years back. One tricky thing to consider is checking how the background photos look on the phone (where I assume most will view my website) as well as the desktop. One thing I am still working on is putting in a search bar in the menu bar (it’s looks pretty complicated).
Categorising the Content
I wanted to create pages so it features blog posts on a particular subject. However, it’s not as easy as I first thought to come up with suitable categories. Eventually I came up with four categories of enhancing performance, volleyball explained, life as a Performance Analyst and, reflective writing. It’s good to define the four areas I tend to write about as it would focus my writing. I might create a fifth category of blog posts where I rank things, e.g. NVL Clubs with the most social media followers, as it doesn’t fit into any of those categories. I also added the archive that has every single Blogspot posts. This is for prosperity reasons if I ever wanted to go back and read what I wrote a decade ago.
Reformatting the Old Blogspot Posts
So I was happy that I was able to export all the posts I wrote on blogspot and import it on wordpress. It kept the same dates and comments too. However, I realised the format was all over the place. The perfectionist in me I decided to reformat each post (the relevant ones anyway) so it all looked consistent. I had to reformat the text (some had single and double spacing), re-edit all the hyperlinks so it went back to wordpress rather than blogpost and write an excerpt so it was clear what the blog post is about. I also had to manually add a featured image for each post, as this is not done automatically. I found it looked best when the picture was a square, like how I was starting to produce them for my new instagram account. I decided to it was worth creating a new square featured image for all my old posts. I am still in process of reformatting my older blog posts.
Future
Like I said, the website is still a work in progress and there is still a lot of learn about what I can do in wordpress. There is also the idea of purchasing my own domain name, which I may do in the future if I can enough traffic.

Coaching for a Greater Purpose (CGP) I recently attended the Coaching for a Greater Purpose (CGP) conference at the Frankfurt International School. CGP takes on a mission that coaching is “bigger than teaching the X’s and O’s of our particular sport” – like what the UK Coaching Symposium did – it’s about “teaching the Y’s…

Being with the England Teams It is always a pleasure supporting the England team whenever they play. I was with them twice this summer – once with the England Men’s U22 for the CEV U22 European Championship Qualifiers in Italy and twice with the England Men’s Senior National Team in the Nordic Cup in Denmark.…

This came across my Facebook feed. It asked how you would rank these setter attributes: I thought it was a really interesting question, mainly because my answer was different to what was commented and discussed. Decision-Making First The two Facebook comments and two England National Team Coaches ranked the setter attributes as follows: They ranked…
