Welcome to the second full week of Fall term, everyone! Hopefully your first week went well, and the initial whirlwind is starting to settle into a new routine. The new week brings new announcements; see below.

Remember, if you have news to share, please submit your news for future issues of SCling Wrap, cause we need your help keeping up with what’s ✨fresh✨ at USC Linguistics.

Congratulations 👏

A warm congratulations to Silvia Kim, who successfully defended her dissertation entitled “Interpretation of pronominal forms across languages” on August 15, 2024. Above she is pictured celebrating with members of her committee Elsi Kaiser (top right), Toby Mintz (bottom left), and Andrew Simpson (top left).

Look Who’s Talking 🗣

  • Elsi Kaiser gave an invited talk at the “Second Osnabrück–Irvine Workshop on the Role of Loopholes in Polite Communication”, at UC Irvine Aug 7-8, 2024. Link to schedule.

Other good news 🎉

The first social event of the 2024-25 academic year — pizza at Emmy Squared Pizza in Santa Monica — was a delicious success!
