Week in Review, 21 March 2016
Yeah, I’m late. It’s because my darling children went to bed at like 10:30p Sunday and Monday, and late as hell tonight too (maybe more like 9:30p. Lucky me…). Not crabby, not tired, just revved up and excited for LIFE and running circles and exploding out of bedrooms and just, UGH. I blame spring break I guess.

I love my babies but this weekend they had 2 speeds:massive college house party, and F5 Tornado. Nothing less. It made the cleaning I did all weekend about a million times harder than it should have been. And Lord help me, but I was excited for work on Monday morning. And today. And looking forward to it tomorrow too, in fact, oddly enough.

On a more positive note: Pete lost his other top front tooth. The one he knocked loose 8 long months ago. The one I never thought would actually fall. A tooth that took so long to fall out, in fact, that I am suspicious the only reason it finally vacated its position is because the new tooth is ready to come in (and yeah, you can see it peeping outta there already). Anyhoo, Pete was excited because it meant he could finally cash in all those other teeth he’s been collecting and then hit up the Lego Store. Except, alas – suddenly he couldn’t find the container of other teeth. We searched high and low, and finally I just wrote a note to the tooth fairy to let her know that they were lost but to still pay out, and we were okay.
Until 9p on Saturday night, when Pete came rushing out of his room sobbing because he tipped over his tooth-fairy pillow and the sole actual real tooth proof had fallen out and into his mass of blankets/pillows/stuffed animals, and he couldn’t find it.
Scott and I pulled out all his bedding and shook everything out and yet: no tooth. BECAUSE OF COURSE. So I scribbled a quick addendum to the original note to let the tooth fairy know that in fact, we were giving her exactly ZERO teeth because they had all been lost, however I swear they were all real at some point. And he prayed himself to sleep that she would take pity on him and still give him something.
Also he fell asleep so that the tooth-fairy pillow, containing the note that I would have to retrieve and then replace with cash, was tucked not only under his midsection, but also a pillow and 2 more blankets deep. To say I was proud of myself for being able to locate it in the dark at midnight and do the swap without awakening him would be an understatement. LEVEL TEN PROFESSIONAL PARENTING SKILLS RIGHT THERE.
Anyway here’s a picture of him with and without the tooth in question. By the end he could bend it over 90 degrees forward and he loved to shove it in-between his lips and then mutter for me to look, knowing it weirded me out. BOYS. Never have ’em.

All weekend I cleaned. Like, the deep-cleaning kinda thing you do in the spring, it has bit me hard, except: it was cold all weekend, so I couldn’t throw open the windows and do the Official thang. No matter. I cleaned closets, deep-cleaned the bedrooms and playroom in the basement, and packed up old forgotten toys. Two boxes worth. Oh! And I threw out a huge garbage bag of BROKEN TOYS. I mean, most of them were cheap things we’ve purchased at yard sales or from Happy Meals, but still. Dayum. That was kind of impressive.
Also I was able to find an Easter outfit in the closet for Linus, an old one I bought last year, it barely fits and is totally not weather-appropriate but whatever. It’ll do. He likes it, anyway.

There is not much more to speak of. Sorry. It was a boring weekend full of normal cleaning, cooking, upkeep, and deep-cleaning in anticipation of spring. And the boys jumped on the bed a lot, as kids are wont to do.

Can’t have a bed-jumping party without the Pete.

Oh, the Pete. What a turd. He’s on spring break this week and he’s pretty darn happy about it. LEGOS ALL DAY ERRRRDAY. Scott is taking off a few days at the end of the week so they can go on Man Adventures together.

Oh – and as long as I’m updating this late, I will include: Linus finally got a haircut on Monday night. His first one of all time ever, and I didn’t even remember my camera (I KNOW).
I really didn’t think his hair was that bad going in; sure he had been mistaken for a girl a lot, but we live in the Midwest where everyone shaves their boys practically bald as soon as they hit the ripe old age of 1, so that’s to be expected. It wasn’t until he was getting annoyed with batting it out of his face all day that I finally relented. And I am glad I did – it was pretty bad, admittedly. Dumpster Baby alert. I have only noticed because it looks so nice and tidy and CLEAN now.

Whoops! Also he sat nicely for his haircut, even though he was pretty suspicious of our stylist, Erin. He sat on my lap and pointedly ignored her and kept himself busy wiping all his wispy baby hairs off my pants as they fell fell fell.
I have to give him props. No screaming or fits whatsoever (he’s too much of an old man for that nonsense, I guess). Good job, chicken nugget. I hope you enjoyed your congratulatory popcorn.

Okay that’s all for this week. See you after Easter, suckers.
