Wednesday, Sept 6 Match Day!

Sep 6, 2023

Update: Weird day. Dallas had to cancel their match and Centenary played why did the volleyball team cross the road for most of the day. Turns out it’s all about air conditioning but they got to play at home after all was said and done.

UCSC is leading Caltech in set one. I can’t get the Live Stats to work, which is annoying.

UCSC takes set one 25-18 despite a late run by Caltech.

#24 Cornell College dropped their first set against Dubuque but took the second.

Caltech hanging tough in the second and had the lead midway. Good news for the Slugs, right side Sydney Ahrendt is playing. My pick for preseason All-Region missed the first weekend.

UCSC takes set two.

#25 Christopher Newport is “upset” by undefeated Virginia Wesleyan. This gives CNU their 3rd loss on the season. CNU was not ranked in my Top 25. (Was that subtle enough?)

Cornell shakes it off and wins (actually, they haven’t yet but they will).

Santa Cruz with the sweep over Caltech. I will say Caltech didn’t go quietly although UCSC did empty their bench.

Random Thoughts: Three of these matches are against non-DIII opponents. Not a lot more to say about them.

Caltech will take on their first DIII opponent of the year in Santa Cruz. Tough matchup. The Slugs should be able to win this one but the Caltech Beavers have been known to put up a surprise or two the last few years so worth a tune in just to see how it’s going early.
