Wednesday, Sept 24 Match Day!

Updates: Well, we had a flight delay so home a little later than planned. Spent some time with the cats and now on to volleyball.

Hey! It looks like Keane State won so I hope everyone made some money on that.

It was a small match day nationally but did you know that there were six winless teams that played and lost? Wesleyan (GA) got their first win although it was against a winless team.

I didn’t have this match noted below but Salem beat Southern Virginia. Ramification for my USA South peeps. Tufts beat Brandeis in 4-sets. Payton Shiflet did great again for Greensboro.

Our only game in the West went 5-sets. Interesting score line. Schreiner wins their three sets 13, 16 and 6. TLU won their two sets 18 and 18. Nothing close in any of the sets. Schreiner had 75 Points while TLU only had 58. Giana Hilliard had 15 kills and 10 digs. Jesse Garner also had a great match.

Dubuque made easy work of Coe and won in a sweep. Bridgewater also swept W&L in a bit of a surprise. I guess that low Points/Set number was an indicator. Could W&L be the 3rd best ODAC team?

St Mary’s (IN) is still winless as they beat Olivet in 4-sets.

North Central is leading Carthage 2-1. That would be a small upset. Eau Claire is up on La Crosse 2-1.

Eau Claire ends up winning 3-1. North Central also wins taking down Carthage in 4-sets. So, I like Carthage but didn’t have them ranked like the AVCA did. The reason was that their best result was a 5-set loss to WashU who I still don’t know too much about. They do have a sweep over CC and a sweep over Platteville but neither are ranked now. So, a good team but probably one that didn’t deserve the ranking. Now, North Central is another good team. Their three losses are to Rose-Hulman, Illinois College and Edgewood. IC is the strange one in that bunch as they are 4-8. Anyway, just me thinking out loud and kind of what I do when I put together my Top 25. It should also be said, that I mess up the rankings all of the time. The real problem is that these teams are made up of 18 to 22 year-olds that have a lot of stuff going on in their lives. Most of the time when two teams play and they are close in talent, it’s just about who has kept the other stuff out of the gym the best.

National Games to Watch:

6 pmCoe at Dubuque – Both teams want this for conference but also for at-large help. Dub is in the 60s. I think Coe is in the 57s.

Wash. & Lee at Bridgewater (VA) – Another big ODAC match. Both teams doing well in the NPI race although both could use this win.

7 pmCarthage at North Central – Big CCIW match here. Carthage newly ranked.

West Schedule:

Random Thoughts:

The scoreboard for today already has Keane State over Colby-Sawyer so bet big if in Vegas. (That match was played yesterday.)

Travel day for us so hopefully updates later tonight. I only see the TLU/Schreiner match in the West. Schreiner would seem to be the favorite here.

Some nice matches nationally.
