Wednesday, Sept 17 Match Day!

Updates: Here is your NPI Update for the day:

Dubuque drops 5 spots. I thought it might be more. Edgewood (who beat Dub yesterday) is at 57.575 and moved up from 45th to 24th. Notice that we now have used opponent NPI instead of opponent NPI. This is the NPI of a team’s opponent that are used in their NPI calculation. So, any bad wins that are not included in NPI will not be included in used opponent NPI.

All of “our” matches are on-going. I will say that my wi-fi is really slow so I need everyone to read slowly. That should help matters.

Warren Wilson lost the first set but is putting up a fight in the second, Centre is rolling midway through the second set, Millsaps is up 1-0, Mary Washington is…well…struggling and Salisbury is up 1-0. Concordia’s match has just started. Heading to dinner. I hope to catch some of those national matches later but no fast offenses, please. My wi-fi can’t handle it.

Back from dinner and being swarmed by mosquitoes. That was fun. Warren Wilson got swept. I’m not sure they scored a point in that second set after I said they were close.

Salisbury got their sweep. They were led by Julie Altieri who had 3 kills, 31 assists, 2 aces and 11 digs.

Mary Washington continued to struggle and were swept to a good Bridgewater team. Millsaps got tripped up for one set but won in four. They were led by Rachel Zamjahn who had 6 kills, 39 assists and 7 digs.

Centre had a pretty easy sweep and had three players with double-digit kills (Christopher, Tate and Bietz).

Concordia got the sweep over Our Lady of the Lake. They can be a good team at times so nice win for them. They had a great outing from Brooklynne Fitzgerald who had 13 kills and 13 digs.

In the national matches, IWU had an easy win over Wheaton. I’ve seen that show before…in person.

St Ben won the first set but then lost the next three 16, 20 and 14. That was with 21 attack errors so not great from them. They did put together an outstanding fourth set hitting 0.400 as a team.

That’s it for me. Not sure what tomorrow will bring, but who does.

West Schedule:

Random Thoughts:

There are a number of good teams playing nationally. The two listed matches are the best where two good teams are playing. St Ben hasn’t played a great schedule so I think they are in trouble here but the only way to improve your schedule is to play better teams and they get that with UWEC.

IWU has been rolling but they were off for a week. Wheaton has been playing pretty well. This is a conference match.

Brevard/Warren Wilson combines for 2 wins so far this season. There will be 3 after this one unless one of the teams hires Mark Massey and then a tie is possible.

Salisbury should handle St Mary’s. Bridgewater should handle Mary Washington but I keep thinking with more time under the belt, they will become a tougher opponent. Give me both Millsaps and Centre in their matches. Lady is a non-DIII school. They actually sit right next door to Trinity in case you didn’t know.

This is going to be a tough update day for me. Or…an easy one…I just don’t know.
