Wednesday, Sept 13 Match Day!
Updates: The dream of an undefeated season is gone. Schreiner wins in 4 sets. They took the third 28-26. They were led by Giana Hilliard who had 11 kills while hitting 0.407 and Brooke Byer who had 14 Points. Howard Payne were led Rylee McAlexander and her 15 kills.
If you go to the Oxy schedule and click on their “Live Stats” link it goes to an old ULV/PLU match. Just strange but I’m no stranger to cut/paste errors. If you click on my Live Stats then you’ll see it’s a close set one right now.
Coming to the end of the first set with UCSC leading by a small margin. They are dominating statistically but their attack seems slower than last year. They’ve also committed some weird looking errors keeping this closer than the numbers say it should.
Just seeing those two big floor fans pointing at the benches makes me hot. How about a new gym for Oxy?!? Set one ends 25-21 UCSC.
UCSC sweeps Oxy and the last two sets weren’t as close. Kelly Ann Greene led the Banana Slugs with 10 kills and 13 Points.
Not seeing Deborah Chun for Pacific. She missed their last match against West Coast Baptist, as well. Despite the loss, Pacific takes set one over George Fox 25-23.
Watching the stream of Pacific/George Fox in the second set. Large part of what I’m watching is roll shots and dinks. Okay, Alison Brown (Pacific) just crushed one. That was a long stretch of blah.
I guess I was just waiting for Kassandra Staton (GFU) and Mara Murphy (Pacific) to get on the front row. Bombing now!
GFU looking to tie this up 1-1 late in the second set. They are hitting 0.500 for the set to 0.148 for Pacific but only lead 22-18.
GFU wins 25-19. Looks like the NWC doesn’t want me to watch the end of this one.
You know, one of the worst plays in volleyball is when a player blocks a ball straight up in the air and then uses one (or two) hands to just pop the ball over the net on first contact. No plan. No thought. Just see ball, get rid of ball.
I wish the NCAA Scoreboard had a Top 25 option that would filter these teams or put them at the top of the display. I’m sure the person in charge of that website is reading this now and will get that implemented for me.
GFU is blowing up Pacific in the third set. 20-5 right now. Deborah Chun is in the game so no injury there…just coach’s decision.
Third set ends 25-10. GFU is hitting 0.364 as a team.
Kassandra Staton finishes off Pacific with her 23rd kill of the night. Big away win for GFU even though it’s the first NWC match of the year. These two teams will be fighting for one of the last spots in their conference tournament and GFU has the leg up now.
Random Thoughts: The ASC started conference play yesterday and today we get the NWC. George Fox and Pacific both are teams that should make a run at the conference tournament so an important one to start the year.
Howard Payne is undefeated but I think that ends today. Schreiner is no sure thing but I like their wins more so maybe that translates.
UC Santa Cruz should be fine against Oxy but their play of late has been troubling.
