Wednesday, October 24 Match Day
Update:
Going to setup the computer/TV for the Trinity / UMHB match now. Should be good although I don’t think I’ll be able to catch it all. I advise you to go watch it, too.
Check out my review of the West RAC rankings below this post. If you read it earlier, know that I updated it with some additional stuff. And, by “stuff”, I mean awesome words that paint a Picasso.
Strong graphics game by the Trinity video department.
First set goes to Mary Hardin-Baylor 25-22. Grambling takes a close first set.
Trinity ties it up talking the second set 25-18. I’m having to step away so use the links.
Emily Ellis, yet another freshman that seem to be able to step up and help their teams right away, was the hitting star for Trinity tonight as she finished 15 kills and 17 points. It will be interesting to see if this head-to-head victory changes the rankings next week and moves UMHB off of the #2 spot. How important could that be? Well, if Whitworth wins the NWC and the West only gets in 7 teams total than three would be from Texas and only 2 from California. That puts the regional in Texas and now it will go to Trinity instead of UMHB. So, could be important, I guess. There are a lot of variables still to play out and other factors involved but every match takes on added significance right now.
CMS sweeps Pomona-Pitzer and that means CMS has won the SCIAC regular season with two matches still to play. For Pomona-Pitzer it means they are now tied for 4th place (the last place allowed into the SCIAC Tournament) with La Verne. Cal Lu is a half game up on the two teams with 10 wins but they only have one match left to play. The good news for Pomona-Pitzer is that their future is in their hands as they have to play both teams. A win over Cal Lu gives them the same number of wins and the tiebreaker. As for CMS, they will be tough to beat in the SCIAC Tournament playing at home regardless of the other 3 teams in the tournament.
Willamette can’t stop Lewis & Clark Kortney Meyer who has 18 kills midway through the 4th set. L&C lead 2-1 and are up in the 4th 17-4.
Lewis & Clark go on and win the match 3-1.

Random Thoughts:
Big time West Region match with Trinity hosting UMHB. This has ranking/seeding implications.
A rare DIII versus DI match-up as Grambling hosts Centenary. They played earlier in the year with Centenary winning.
The little chicken that could faces the defending national champions tonight at home. They really shouldn’t have a chance here so that means they probably pull off the upset.
