Wednesday Musings

Not much out there to discuss but I will be at the SCVA Girls Regional Bid Event in Orange County on Saturday. The tournament is spread out and I’m going to see my niece play (U14). If any coach needs a lefty oppo in a few years, just let me know. Sounds like they have us away from most of the action (Draft Center!?!) as I had wanted to see some of the older groups go at it and, of course, pass out Southwestern University Volleyball gear. Oh well.

Did my first pass through the region looking at updated rosters and schedules. Only one team seems to have their full roster posted while three teams have their schedule posted. I’m really disappointed in the Mary Hardin-Baylor schedule and it will be discussed in a post down the road.

Emory has their schedule posted, which is nice because they are hosting the East / West Challenge this year. This has been one of the best tournaments the past few years and always features Washington-St. Louis, Emory, Trinity and CMS. Cal Lutheran has also been a player in this but they have fallen back a bit the last couple of years. It appears that they will have 8 teams this year, which is an increase over past years. Each team still only players three times. New teams to the mix are UT-Dallas, Johns Hopkins and Tufts. It looks like Juniata is no longer part of this tournament as they were not in it last year or this one. Emory is the only one of the 8 that has their schedule posted so we know they will get Trinity, Johns Hopkins and CMS. The tournament will be the 9th and 10th of September. The 10th is my birthday so I’m a little upset the tournament isn’t named after me but I’ll get over it. I’ve been talking to the (hot) wife about going but we have a wedding to attend on the 9th. There is a 7 am flight out on the 10th so maybe a birthday day trip if the world allows it? I also think Southwestern is playing in New England that weekend and I also hate to miss that.

I’m already seeing some 2023 recruits announce. Shout out to their parents as they seem to have daughters that have things figured out.

Gotta go. I’m sure I missed something and I didn’t check NCAA news. It’s not like the President is stepping down or anything. I mean, what would the odds of that be happening?
