Ways You Can Pray During the Russian/Ukrainian Military Conflict

During the Nazi regime, there were countless German churches protesting and – even  later – attempting or supporting assassination plots on Adolf Hitler. While Hitler was moving around Europe conquering and slaughtering millions of people, many of his own people did not support him.

Let’s not forget the Russian church in the current military conflict between Russia and Ukraine. As our hearts break and lament for the Ukrainian people, let’s remember to pray for the Russian church that is suffering as well under an anti-Christian regime.

In most wars, there are Christians on either side.

Pray that peace would come soon. Not just the laying down of arms, but that the Prince of Peace and His message would penetrate the hearts and minds of many Ukrainians and Russians.

Pray that the steadfast hope and testimony of Christian Ukrainians would spark curiosity among their Russian persecutors and that a revival would begin among the Russian military. How awesome would that be to see the Gospel overcome the foolish desires of men.

Pray that the church in Russia and Ukraine would unite in mutual support and love, so that the rest of the Russian world would see what the power of the Gospel can do. I am reminded that love is an apologetic; pray to that end.

Pray for the salvation of Pres. Putin and other Russian military leadership. “First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way. This is good, and it is pleasing in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth” (I Tim 2:1-4).

Pray for the families being split apart in Ukraine, as some immigrate and others have to stay behind. Pray for a peace that surpasses all understanding. Pray that mothers would shepherd their children well as fathers go off to war.
