Wash U slips past Juniata

Someone who was there, pretty please, fill us in. In a matchup of No. 1 vs. No. 2 that everyone had circled since schedules were released, top-ranked Washington beat Juniata in five, 27-25, 21-25, 20-25, 25-21, 18-16.

Lauren Budde paced Wash U with 24 kills on 70 attempts. Budde added 11 digs, six blocks, two assists and an ace in a stat-stuffing match. Freshman Meghan Byrne was the only other Bear with double-digit kills (11). Kelly Pang led Wash U with 32 digs and Marilee Fisher had 52 assists.

Wash U ups its record to 13-0. JC falls to 10-1. I’m guessing those two teams will remain Nos. 1 and 2 in the country if they win their remaining matches of the day. Wash U plays Carthage in the championship while Juniata takes on Susquehanna in the third-place match. UPDATE: Wash U and Juniata both swept their last matches of the day.
