“Praise him, sun and moon, praise him, all you shining stars!” (Psalm 148:3)

God never leaves Himself without a witness. Even that part of creation that exists in the highest of places – “sun and moon … all you shining stars” – is worshipping God. There is not an absence of praise even there.

“Stars” don’t just shine; they sing! Ever think of that? We have spent countless millions of tax dollars looking for intelligent life and listening for intelligent life. And to this day, we have never heard any intelligent life speaking back to us. And yet, we have sounds that have been recorded in the universe.

One such example is the Vela Pulsar, which is some 1,000 light years away. It is a magnetized neutron star. That means it exploded into a supernova and then collapsed back onto itself. It began oscillating (or spinning) on its own axis 11x per second. It is now shooting a radio frequency out of itself because of that oscillation. And astronomers have actually been able to capture audio of what that oscillation sounds like!

You want to hear one of the ways a star worships God? Click here and you can listen the sound this star makes. That’s just how this one pulsar is praising God!

In the Ancient Near East, these celestial beings were often seen as deities that controlled human destiny and served as interpreted as future events. So, when the psalmist is writing these words, he is correcting that pagan way of thinking. Stars are not to be worshipped, because they are a part of the celestial choir.
