Utilising Screen Recording and Kinovea Features | Sarah Shafiq
Sarah Shafiq Assignment
Back in August 2013, SideOut asked me to carry out some performance analysis (paid) of a volleyball player. It was a cool assignment because it was the first time that I was going to focus solely on one player. The one player in question was Sarah Shafiq. She is an American high school volleyball player (class of 2015) who has already secured a volleyball scholarship at a US college.
Screen Recording the Video Feedback Session
This was the first time I decided to do a screen recording of the video feedback session as a permanent account of what was said. I felt Sarah Shafiq would benefit of it, especially since we looked at all aspects of her game and she wouldn’t remember everything that was going to said.
Utilising More Kinovea Features
This was also the first opportunity of to use some more of the Kinovea features. The main one was using key frames to sync up two videos so a technique can be analysed for two different angles. Below is a video demonstrating it in action.
Sarah’s Feedback of the Screen Recording
I contacted Sarah recently and she has told me she has seen the screen recording several time since and found it useful. That is great to hear. I do hope she comes back to SideOut for a third year during her annual summer trip to London so we can really see how much she has improved.
*** Update 30 January 2021 | Sarah didn’t come back to SideOut. From what I last heard from her mum, she had some kind of injury so she had to quit volleyball. She didn’t receive her volleyball scholarship but she did get another kind of scholarship. I’m not sure what’s she doing now these days though ***
