Utah Hockey Club Narrows Team Name Vote to Three

S. Samek

The Utah Hockey Club is having an in-arena vote between three team names. These are the finalists for their permanent name. The choices are between the Mammoth, Utah Hockey Club and the Wasatch.

Wasatch is a new addition and wasn’t included in the prior fan vote. Mammoth was in the prior fan poll as was Utah Hockey Club. While it seemed like just a placeholder name for this season, it must have gained enough support to make it into the top three choices.

Popular fan choice Utah Yeti was out over issues with copyright and the Yeti company. This is kind of disappointing. Yetis was a pretty good name.

Wasatch is named after the Wasatch Mountains in Utah. It’s a more local-focused name which is good. It’s also unique I don’t believe there’s any other team called Wasatch.

Mammoth is fun too. It makes sense and they can have a lot of fun making a mammoth logo.

Utah Hockey Club staying the name is horrible. It’s ok as a one-season place holder but isn’t a good permanent name. How it even made the list of finalists is baffling. Super boring and I hope this one loses.

Can’t wait to see which team name wins this round of voting.

Update: So, it turns out shortly after this post was published that the team decided to change an option. Wasatch was taken out of the vote and replaced with Outlaws.

Outlaws is decent name if a little generic. Still better than Utah Hockey Club.
