Today I came back to Kyoto to see the Arashiyama Hanatoro  (“Flower and Light Road”) event, which allowed me to see the bamboo forest in a whole new light (pun intended).

Several attractions in the area, including the Okochi-Sanso Villa, also offer later hours for the event.

It was quite spectacular, but incredibly crowded and cold.  Even the mountain itself across the Togetsukyo bridge was lit up in shades of white and blue.    It seems this event is hugely popular with couples.
