United 93 (2006)

Director: Paul Greengrass

Starring: David Alan Basche, Olivia Thirlby, Liza Colón-Zayas

A real-time account of the events on United Flight 93, one of the planes hijacked on September 11th, 2001 that crashed near Shanksville, Pennsylvania when passengers foiled the terrorist plot.

The first thing I noticed was how realistic the film is – mostly thanks to clever photography and a relatively unknown cast. I found this very sad, fascinating and incredibly well done. It is one of those films that causes a lump in one’s throat since we know the fate of the passengers from the very first moment.

The film received 54 award nominations, including Oscar nominations for Best Achievement in Directing, and Best Achievement in Film Editing. It won awards for Best Film, Best Editing, Movie of the Year, Director of the Year, Best Director, and many more.
