Unique Candy Items to Buy at Costco
I like learning about new items at Costco. I don’t write too much about the candy offerings because I don’t eat too much candy. However, I came across an article mentioning several highly recommended candies. I have never seen many of them and therefore wanted to write about them in case others have not seen them either.
8 Unique Candy Items at Costco
1. Nutty & Fruity Peel’d Peelable Gummies
Originally sold at Walgreens, these candies went “viral” this year and now Costco is selling a new variety. They contain two components. The outer layer (the “peel”) is chewy, ereas the inside (the “fruit”) is softer. Costco sells these individually wrapped candies in a variety pack (mango; strawberry; tangerine), each made with real fruit juice.
These candies are not kosher (they are vegan) but they are very cute and sound like a lot of fun to eat.
2. Kirkland Signature Peppermint Bark
This seasonal treat is one of the most popular candies sold at Costco. It consists of dark and white chocolate covered in pieces of peppermint candy. It is sold in the bakery section.
I recently wrote about the Ghirardelli peppermint candies (Final (?) November Savings at Costco). Peppermint is a popular flavor in the winter, so it is not surprising that there are a few varieties of peppermint candies sold. Although I love chocolate and mint together, I don’t like white chocolate enough to buy this item. However, funnily enough, a commenter on Reddit wrote that this item is the only time that they eat white chocolate. Maybe I’d like the white chocolate in this product too.
3. Fruit Riot Sour Candy Grapes
A new product to Costco in these candy grapes. They consist of frozen grapes splashed with lemon juice and coated in sour candy. Costco sells the candy in a variety pack (mixed berry; green apple; lemon lime).
I never think about frozen candy. Many years ago, I read about and tried frozen grapes. They were good but I actually prefer regular grapes because they are juicier. I tend not to like grape flavored candy but I imagine it’s different when it is actual fruit. However, I’d prefer to eat the fruit plain rather than with coatings. It does sound like a novel concept and apparently, they are well-liked.
4. Bequet Celtic Sea Salt Caramels
Another common candy this time of year is caramel. According to this article, this brand is one of the (if not the) best. They are vanilla butter caramels with large salt flakes in the center and a smooth texture.
I recently wrote about the Sander’s caramels that I am interested in trying (Final (?) November Savings at Costco), I often find caramel too sweet, so I would definitely prefer the candies with chocolate. However, they are clearly very popular.
5. Utah Truffles Dark Chocolate Truffles
The article mentions a small study that found these truffles to be the favorite snack at Costco, with 92% of ratings being given stars. These individually wrapped candies consist of a dark chocolate coating, a soft center, and sea salt.
I have a research background so I immediately question the study and the selection bias of people who bother to write reviews. That aside, they do look delicious. They are not kosher so I will stick with the Lindt truffles if I decide to buy some this season (November Food Deals at Costco). However, the addition of sea salt makes these sound very good.
6. Cretors Cheese & Caramel Popcorn
This snack combines cheese popcorn and caramel popcorn in one bag.
I remember reading about the tins with the three compartments with three different types of popcorn (butter; cheese; caramel) often give as gifts. I never received one but they sounded fun. I like both cheese and caramel popcorn (the latter in small doses) but the combination sounds odd to me. I remember seeing a TV show in which they mentioned how common the combination is in Chicago and it did not sound appealing. However, clearly many people enjoy the mixture.
7. Kirkland Signature Caramel S’mores
An item introduced last year is these s’mores. The clusters are made from caramel, marshmallows, and grahams all covered in milk chocolate.
I don’t love s’mores because I’d rather just eat chocolate. I do like candy clusters but prefer ones made from chocolate, caramel, and nuts (e.g., turtles). I also prefer dark to milk chocolate. However, I know that most people adore s’mores and this article confirms their popularity of this item.
8. Cinnamon Toffee Squares
Apparently, this snack is based on the churro. The candies are made from buttery almond toffee and then coated with cinnamon and sugar.
I am surprised by how little appeal these have to me. I really like toffee. However, because of the sweetness, I want it to be combined with chocolate. I used to really like Skor Bars and Heath Bar Crunch Bars. The addition of sugar to already sweet toffee sounds overwhelming.
These are new candies for me at Costco. I am not interested in most of them. Were you familiar with them? Will you try them? Any others you’d suggest?
