Tuesday, Sept 9 Match Day!

Updates: Small NPI update for those tuning in. Dubuque and Colby swapped places yesterday. Neither played. Small number of teams actually played. That’s a ripple, folks. I will update the full rankings after today’s matches. I’ll try to do that after a large number of matches are played in a day. (And, I want to. That’s an important part of the update process.)

Well, not all undefeated teams are made the same. CMU gives Grove City their first loss and only the third set was close.

Newport is winning 2-0 and Sewanee is leading 2-1. That would be a nice win there.

Undefeated Lasell stays undefeated with a win over Emerson. Middlebury moves to 4-1 with a sweep over St Michael’s. Undefeated St Mary’s (In) is up 2-1 trying to stay undefeated. Penn St-Behrend gets their first loss at the hands of John Carroll (sweep). Colby stays undefeated with an easy sweep. Marywood also stays undefeated.

NPI says a Sewanee over Maryville win would be one of the biggest upsets of the season, so far.

In the CNU match Alyssa Dozier only played the first set and then late in the third. I didn’t see an injury. Probably just a chance to rest her and give others some experience. And…CNU gets the sweep. Carley Coghill with 12 kills hitting 0.435 in this one.

And just like that, Sewanee gets the 4-set win. Great job there. Savannah Gann with 15 kills hitting 0.400. Last set was 26-24. Right now, that will challenge as the largest upset this season but the numbers will change once this match is entered. It will still be considered a large upset but will come under the Millikin and PLU matches. (I believe.)

Still more matches going on nationally but that’s it for my coverage more than likely. North Central is leading Aurora 1-0 and that match intrigues me a bit.

National Games to Watch:

Some other good teams playing but not sure the matches will be close.

West Schedule:

Random Thoughts:

A lot of teams playing nationally. I was too lazy to add the Aurora/North Central match at 7 pm. Sue me.

Grove City is undefeated but CMU should win that match.

As for our matches, Ferrum is no longer DIII so don’t really care. Warren Wilson will struggle this season against most teams. I would like to think that CNU will figure it out and get back on their winning ways tonight. Maryville probably beats Sewanee but it could be close. Interesting note is that Maryville will be joining the SAA next season so this would have been a conference match.
