Tuesday, Oct. 1 Match Day!

Updates:  Senior Days are starting and I didn’t realize Southwestern’s was today. Happy for the last two seniors to play with my daughter but so sad to see that connection go.

Yay Landri and Jazz! And no I’m not crying, you’re crying!

The assists leader in the SCAC, Katie Whitehead, is missing for Southwestern due to an illness.

No surprises in the pre-9 p.m. matches. TLU hung tough after the first set with Southwestern. Austin College took a set off of UTD.

I don’t see Lauren Li for Caltech. Big loss for them. My Live Stats for Whittier isn’t working. The Chapman/CMS stream makes me ill because they have to move the camera too much.

Looks like Redlands will get their first SCIAC win of the season. Lead 2-0. Pomona-Pitzer sweeps Oxy. Chapman looks like their are going to take set three. They are down to CMS 2-0. Whittier and La Verne look to keep me up tonight. UPDATE – I was right.

Redlands with their first conference win. Second set was 33-31.

CMS/Chapman going to a fifth set.

Chapman upsets #4 CMS in 5-sets. Jessi Lumsden with 18 kills and 20 digs. Sophie Srivastava with (another) triple-double – 12 kills, 23 assists and 25 digs. Also was huge at the net blocking.

Big win for Chapman and one I really think they needed to keep an at-large bid alive. Of course, with that win they are in first right now in the SCIAC. Their SOS is going to be a problem but if they keep that record good then this win should boost their chances.

Whoa. I thought Whittier had won their match. Live Stats stopped at 24-17 in the fourth set and that usually means they didn’t close out the match in their software. Well, La Verne scored 8 straight points and won the set 27-25! They are also in a 5th set.

Since I’m now waiting on this match to end…really annoying that Chapman shut down their feed just as the last point was scored. We saw the team rush the court and then nothing. Just give us 10 more seconds next time!

La Verne leads 12-11 and is in the rotation that saw them score 8 straight points. But, Whittier’s Franki Piloto gets the kill. Tied 12-12.

EPIC Comeback for La Verne. They take the 5th set 19-17 after being dead in the fourth set. They really couldn’t afford a loss there but that is a tough one for the Poets.

#4 CMS at Chapman

Redlands at Caltech

Occidental at Pomona-Pitzer

Random Thoughts: All four conferences are in action to a varied degree with some cross play between the ASC and SCAC also scheduled.

ETBU at Belhaven is interesting and a match the Blazers need if they want to make a serious run at the conference tournament.

I’m probably more interested in the SCIAC matches than anything else. La Verne at Whittier is a tricky one. La Verne is trying to make a run at a conference tournament spot but Whittier should be tough at home. Plus Whittier wants one of those spots, too.

CMS at Chapman is probably the match of the night. Chapman really needs a signature win to add to their resume and this will be their best chance at getting one off of CMS. CMS can struggle at times but are good enough to win this in a sweep (although I’ll say 4-sets). UPDATE – Got that wrong, didn’t I?

Caltech goes for their 3rd conference win at home against Redlands while Pomona-Pitzer can’t afford to lose this one to Oxy. Both Redlands and Oxy are still looking for their first conference win.
