Starring: Jackie Cruz, Jon Heder, Michael Gross

When a group of hunters genetically modify Graboid eggs, they face an all-out war against the larger, terrifyingly intelligent Graboids, and the swiftly multiplying Shriekers.

The Tremors franchise is still going strong after three decades. I still fondly remember the original – and still the best – ‘Tremors’ back in 1990.

‘Tremors: Shrieker Island’ might be more of a ‘Jurassic Park’ vs ‘Skull Island’ wannabe than a ‘Tremors’ film. Having said that, I loved the setting on the beautiful island. The cinematography and photography are stunning, and the editing is really good. The slow motion photography in particular was excellent.

Ah, and speaking of reference to other films. I see they use the ‘Predator’ heat sensing effect in this one. One of the characters even reference ‘Predator’…

So, an opportunistic millionaire took graboids to an island, enhanced them, and now invites wealthy hunters from around the world for hunting parties. Yes, we have our cliched characters with cliched back stories, but I rather enjoyed this installment. It was more suspenseful and less comical than its predecessors. There are still those ‘what the hell were you thinking’ moments, but in general this was pretty darn entertaining. There’s loads of action and adventure and enough horror for the horror fans.

I admire the franchise for the fact they don’t deviate all that much from a formula that has worked so well for the series. And Michael Gross is back as Burt Gummer, a character that has really grown on me over the years.

The film has a very emotional ending I never saw coming. (Not sure this will go down well with fans, though). As for ‘Tremors: Shrieker Island’ in general; I loved it!

Would I watch it again? Yes.
