Top 10 Tuesday | New-to-me Authors for 2019
Top 10 Tuesday is a weekly book tag that was run by The Broke and the Bookish but has now moved to That Artsy Reader Girl. Each week she provides a different bookish theme those deep-seated desires to list! Anyone is welcome to join in on their blog, in the comments or any other way.

As I already did a little 2018 new-to-me authors section in my ‘best of 2018’ post, I thought it would be cool to look ahead at new-to-me authors that I’ll be reading in 2019. I loved discovering new authors last year and many of their books became my favourite books of 2018 so I’m looking forward to seeing what new-to-me authors 2019 brings me.

Lauren James
Even though I saw Lauren at two book cons last year, I still haven’t read this! I did buy a copy of it to get it signed the second time I met her and it is on my list of books I need to read in 2019, especially as her second book The Quiet at the End of the World is being released this year.

N.K Jemisin
When R.F Kuang was asked what book or series she would recommend if she could only choose one, she chose The Broken Earth Trilogy by N.K Jemisin. Coincidentally, Books and Tea then chose the trilogy as one of its readalong books for this year and I found a copy of the Fifth Season in a charity shop! It looks like all the signs are pointing me towards reading this this year and I can’t wait because Jemisin sounds incredible.

E.K Johnston
Even though E.K Johnston is a prolific and highly rated author, I’ve never come across any of her work before now. Queen’s Shadow is one of my 2019 most anticipated reads and I’m looking forward to being introduced to her writing through this.

Brandon Sanderson
Sanderson is another prolific author whose work I haven’t come across before and I don’t know how?! I got a copy of Skyward through my November Fairyloot box but didn’t get a chance to read it before the end of the year. I also have Sanderson’s fantasy books on my TBR for after Skyward.

Katie O’ Neill
Ooooooh, I want to read Katie O’ Neill’s adorable books so bad. I’ve wanted to read The Tea Dragon Society for ages and I also love the look of Aquicorn Cove. Basically, I need O’ Neill’s fluffy adorable stories in my life.

Josh Martin
I met Josh Martin at YALC 2018 and immediately went to the Waterstones stall to buy his books. Speaking on an LGBTQ panel, he was the only one who responded to my question asking the panelists to speak about trans people and also gave an excellent response. As far as I’m aware, he was the only panelist to have a trans character in his book as well!

Foz Meadows
I have had An Accident of Stars on my TBR for some time now but still haven’t picked it up despite hearing great things about Foz Meadows work. Foz is a genderqueer author and writes some really great rep. I’m always on the lookout for more diverse authors so I’m eagerly anticipating reading Foz Meadow’s work!

Brian McClellan
I have heard so many good things about the Gods of Blood and Powder series by McClellan and can’t believe I haven’t read any of McClellan’s work yet. I’ve even owned Sins of Empire for a year and didn’t read it, so this year I’m making time for McClellan’s work!

Nisi Shawl
Nisi Shawl is an incredible Afrofuturist author and who is basically an institution in the SFF world. I’ve owned Everfair since April last year but didn’t get round to reading it and I now have an ARC of New Suns which Nisi edited. She is definitely a must-read author for 2019 and many years after!

Martha Wells
Look, I have been talking about The Murderbot Diaries for I don’t even know how long and still haven’t read the first book. HOLD ME ACCOUNTABLE. Make 2019 be the year of Martha Wells please because her work sounds mind blowing and I need it.

These are the new-to-me authors that I’m most looking forward to reading this year. Are there any whose work you’re excited to read too?
