Updates: The NPI Rankings page has been updated through yesterday’s matches.
Schreiner and HSU have started and it’s 1-1 right now. Jesse Garner with 7 kills for SU while Hernandez and Jones each have 7 for HSU. HSU looks to be the better team right now. They just need to reduce their attacking errors.
Giana Hilliard had a nice third set but it wasn’t enough for SU. HSU up 2-1 but teams are playing pretty even right now.
I had to go deal with some car issues. HSU holds off SU 3-1. Close match. Last match was only 2 points but statistically, HSU was better in that last set. Volleyball weird. HSU had 14 kills but 8 attacking errors in set four. Regardless, these teams are pretty close to each other so really nice win for HSU. Jadyn Hernandez hit 0.438 while Liz keidl contributed 15 kills for HSU. Giana Hilliard finished with 16 kills and 12 digs for SU.
I’m watching the Kean/Manhattanville match. In the first set, Kean has an easy lead right now as they try to close out the game. Looking at the stats I pulled down today, Manhattanville is averaging 15.36 Points/Set with a Hitting Percentage of 0.166. Kean is averaging 17.4 Points/Set and a Hitting Percentage of 0.229. So, the stats agree with what I’m seeing right now. Looking at NPI, however, we get a different story. Manhattanville is at 58.921 with an Opponent NPI of 48.651. Kean is at 53.738 and an Opponent NPI of 45.744. So, NPI says Manhattanville has played tougher opponents and has performed better.
Score is now Kean 23-21 after a late run from Manhattanville. Stats vs NPI on the line.
Stats win out 25-23 as Kean goes up 1-0.
Kean now up 2-0. Kean had to come back a bit in this one.
Manhattanville takes set three but Kean with the easy set four win to take the match. A nice NPI win for them.
UMHB with an easy set one over SU. Second set closer but UMHB up 2-0.
UMHB gets the sweep. New Jersey City won tonight and moves to 5-0. Marywood is 7-0 after a win over Delaware Valley. And…that’s about all I care about. See you tomorrow.

Random Thoughts:
UMHB is having a small tournament but it nets Schreiner two matches against teams that will have good NPIs this season. There are only 4 losses between these three teams so good volleyball here. With Schreiner moving to the ASC next season, these teams will become good friends.
The tournament continues this weekend with more teams added to the mix.
Nationally, Manhattanville is undefeated and has a high NPI right now. Kean just has one loss.
