The Witch in the Window (2018)

Director: Andy Mitton
Starring: Arija Bareikis, Alex Draper, Charlie Tacker
When Simon brings his twelve year-old son, Finn, to rural Vermont to help flip an old farmhouse, they encounter the malicious spirit of Lydia, a previous owner. And now with every repair they make – she’s getting stronger.
‘The witch in the Window’ is clearly a low budget film, but I could see they tried really hard.
This is not the most genius of scripts and not the best acting, yet somehow I actually really enjoyed this. If I were to show this to my friends at a movie night, they’d probably be bored and I’d feel ashamed for showing it to them admitting that I like it. There are some creepy moments, but not enough to satisfy the need for something more. There are so many creepy, haunting films out there nowadays that I’d rather skip this as a movie night suggestion.
It was fun seeing the father and son bond. There’s also an interesting twist ending. This is a film you should probably watch alone to allow your mind to wander.
Interestingly enough, ‘The Witch in the Window’ received nominations for Best Film, Best Director and Best Screenplay.
Would I watch it again? I don’t think so.
