The Return of Marxfest!

Today marks the 99th anniversary of the Marx Brothers’ first Broadway show I’ll Say She Is,which we revived nine years ago in the context of an entire Marx Brothers festival produced by moi and a committee of much sharper and more charming cohorts. It seemed a good time for this unauthorized leak that talks are already afoot for a new edition of Marxfest, to take place just about a year from now. You want more details? I ain’t got none. We’ve only just begun the planning. Just know that it’s coming, barring some unforeseen disaster, and will probably include many of the same kind of events we presented last time out, including talks, screenings, theatrical shows, and so forth, as chronicled so wonderfully by Noah Diamond here.

More than that I dare not divulge, except to say that I’ll be coming out with my OWN book of appreciation about the Marx Brothers, vaudeville’s greatest comedy team, at that time as part of the proceedings. Meantime, today’s a good day to recommend once again Gimme a Thrill, Noah Diamond’s superlative book about I’ll Say She Is and the process of reviving it. Buy that here.
