The Problem With Warframe Being On The Switch.

This announcement surprised me quite honestly. I’m delighted of course, but still astonished that a game with such generous proportions could even function on Nintendo’s hybrid console. During this years “TennoCon”, an annual convention dedicated to all things Warframe, Digital Extremes made a rather startling announcement: Warframe is coming to the Switch! Warframe on the Switch is a distinctly exciting prospect for us Tennos. To meld the versatility of the Switch with Warframe is, well it’s not something I thought would happen. How proficient the functionality will be on such servile hardware is hard to say. No doubt there will be visual compromises and other sacrificial provisos implemented to ensure a game of such expeditious fidelity will perform as optimal as possible, considering the consoles limitations. Warframes performance is thankfully being handled by “Panic Button”, a team that help port “Doom” and “Rocket League” to Nintendo’s versatile console, so whatever sacrifices are made I’m sure they will be negligible. But despite the obvious joy, it’s integration onto the Switch does present an interesting dilemma.
Information regarding Warframe on the Switch is at a premium at this point. We know it exists and that it will be available to download at some stage, presumably sometime this year. We can however speculate with a degree of accuracy that Warframe will not support cross play, which puts myself, as well as many others in some what of a “Orokin Cell” sized pickle.
I have been playing Warframe in variable stages of obsession for close to a year, reaching nearly 300 log ins and over 400 hours of cumulative play. I’ve amassed a robust artillery, forged using resources I’ve spent hours scavenging and grinding for. Negotiated my way through an entire solar system, scouring planets for rare materials, defeating various alien militias and mercenaries along the way. So the idea of doing this all again, from scratch, knowing what I know now is discouraging.

Dont get me wrong I’ve enjoyed every second of my journey to become a bad ass, as well as stylish Tenno. But the thought of having to begin again equipped with a gun that isn’t my beautiful baby “Arca Plasmor”, carving the infested into a fine gooey liquid without my trusted “Galatine” to cleave their body parts asunder or using the appropriate mods required to amplify these tools of liquidation to me just sounds exhausting. If however you’re new to Warframe this isn’t liable to be a problem.
Warframe is a demanding beast to rear. There are so many complex facets that make up Warframe that it could take you weeks, perhaps even months to really anchor yourself effectively. But once you get it, with the aid of concurrent player base as collaborative and obliging as Warframes you’ll be addicted. It’s constant and consistent evolution is frankly phenomenal! Enduring largely thanks to its gratuitous updates that continue to enrich the disparate lore, maps, Warframes and a few new head splintering weapons. Which is readily supported by a ravenous, deeply passionate community who will no doubt migrate to the Switch, providing further assistance to those new to the series.
The accessibility of an almost mobile Warframe is an enticing incentive though, perhaps a temptation too great to ignore simply because of some churlish reluctance to start again. Uh, who am I kidding, you know I’m going to download this the second it’s available. I’m just that predictable!
