You talk to yourself a lot.   We have 50k thoughts per day.  In the simplest possible terms, the kinds of thoughts you engage in matters.

The language you in your mind use affects how you feel.  What you say affects how you feel.  Positive self talk is the key to success and vice versa.

I recently read Unf*ck Yourself by Gary Bishop.  Just like The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck by Mark Manson it’s an awful title but a great read and very worthwhile to invest your time internalizing the message.

In a nutshell, the complexity and power of self talk is undeniable.

Do you ever feel like a hamster on a wheel? Do you think of yourself as stupid, lazy or just not good enough?  Do you set goals for your happiness or perhaps weight loss and then fall short of what you planned on accomplishing?

The trap is that you can easily fall into an unproductive monologue.  Bishop advises to stop blaming anything on anyone.  You are responsible.  My thought is attempting to control what is outside of your influence is a waste of energy.  Let it go.

Emotions are controlled by your thoughts – think Anthony Robbins.  He is a master of using simple exercises to choose your emotions and choose how you respond to life’s ups and downs.   If you want to be happy, picture yourself in your happy place.  Take 10 minutes free of distraction, you’re on the beach, it’s 90, there’s a cool breeze, a drink in your hand, your kids are laughing, you have a great book and awesome dinner plans.  You’re warm and present, you accept the current situation, you deserve and let yourself enjoy…  this exercise really works.

Thoughts are bedfellows of emotions.  We create our own reality by talking and thinking in a way that is helpful.  This enables problems to become opportunities.

Remember, don’t put things in terms of what you will do in the future…  Be assertive.  Do it now.  Repeat, I am relentless.  I will do <insert your action here>.
