The Nymphs is a rock band formed in the late 1980s, known for their distinctive blend of punk, alternative, and psychedelic music. Their sound is often compared to bands like The Velvet Underground and The Stooges, but with a unique edge. The band, led by singer and guitarist Inger Lorre, gained some recognition during the early 1990s but never quite broke into the mainstream despite their critical acclaim.

Inger Lorre (August 2, 1963 – October 16, 2024), the frontwoman of The Nymphs, is known for her charismatic stage presence and her raw, emotional vocals. Before forming The Nymphs, she had been involved in the Los Angeles music scene, participating in various bands. Lorre’s influence on the band’s sound is undeniable, and her lyrics often explored themes of love, loss, and personal introspection. The band’s music is marked by its experimental nature, mixing elements of grunge, punk, and alternative rock.

Although The Nymphs never achieved widespread commercial success, they are often remembered for their cult following and the band’s undeniable impact on the underground rock scene. Inger Lorre’s career, both with The Nymphs and in her solo work, remains an intriguing part of alternative music history.

In 2024, Lorre was diagnosed with cancer. She died from the disease on October 16, 2024, at the age of 61.
