The New Daughter (2009)

Director: Luiso Berdejo
Starring: Kevin Costner, Ivana Baquero, Samantha Mathis
A single father moves his two children to rural South Carolina, only to watch his daughter exhibit increasingly strange behavior.
Recently divorced writer John James (Kevin Costner) moves into a big house in the countryside with his young son Sam and troubled teenage daughter Louisa. Yeah, we have cliched characters, but thanks to the ever-so-sexy Kevin Costner I rooted for the family.
From the very first night Louisa starts hearing strange noises. The sound effects and visuals are creepy. The next day Louisa and Sam explores the woods. When they return, Louisa suddenly seems like a different person. John soon notices her strange behaviour.
They discover an old Indian burial ground close to the house, and John is told about the disappearance of the previous home owner. With his family in danger, John will do everything necessary to protect them, and discover a disturbing secret.
The jump scares are going to have you on the edge of your seat. The sound design is really good, and the constant foreboding atmosphere ensures a generally creepy film. ‘The New Daughter’ is a possession movie told in a different way, and I rather enjoyed it.
Would I watch it again? Yes.
