At an archaeological dig in the ancient city of Hamunaptra, an American serving in the French Foreign Legion accidentally awakens a mummy who begins to wreck havoc as he searches for the reincarnation of his long-lost love.
‘The Mummy’ is another rare example of a film I can’t really fault in any way. I have so much praise for this incredible production; this is a guilty pleasure to enjoy again and again.
Action, adventure, drama, humor, suspense, horror and fantasy blended with incredible visual effects – honestly, what more could one ask for in a film. Even the humor is actually funny and not (entirely) slapstick. Everything about this film is just fantastic. Regarding the acting, I thought Rachel Weisz in particular was very good.
This is a gem of a film I’ve watched so many times, and will again, and again, and again. Well done, director Stephen Sommers!!
‘The Mummy’ was a huge box office success, earning $415 million on an $80 million budget. It received an Oscar nomination for Best Sound. It won awards for Best Score, and Best Make-Up, and received several other nominations including Best Fantasy Film, Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Director, Best Music, Best Writer, Best Costumes, Best Special Effects, Best Supporting Actor…
Would I watch it again? Absolutely!
