The meaning of “You get what you give”

Happy Halloween!! Mike Wazowski – Thank you DASD 6th Grade Center

How do you achieve personal excellence?  I’m not talking about a pat on the back from Mom or Dad or the wet welcome home from the family pooch, I’m referring to the skip in your step when you’ve exceeded your own expectations in the areas where you previously thought you couldn’t get ahead.

Winning is the end result and clearly success stems from placing yourself in an environment you can succeed in, a persistent hard work ethos and the fortune of being well prepared in right place at the right time.  But why?  To use a simple truth, you get what you give.

I’ve blogged about Stanislav Wawrinka previously – the tattoo on his arm in blue ink reads:  “Ever tried. Ever failed. No matter. Try Again. Fail

again. Fail better.”   Put another way, champions do what contenders won’t – they work, past the point when they want to.  Past the point of complaining and for the right reasons. Success in tennis as in life is how you manage your failure, it’s how you respond.  Everyone supports someone who’s willing to confront adversity.

And speaking of class acts, I’d like to publicly thank tennis professional David Blumeris.  David is the captain of Bryn Mawr/UD, a USTA Philadelphia District 9.0 Mixed doubles team.  We were scheduled to play David’s team last Friday and they are the team to beat this season.  My team has been fortunate to advance to Sectionals the last two years and  seeing our toughest opponent up first on our schedule was not good news.  To add to our challenge, most of our team was unavailable.  I asked David to reschedule and he quickly and graciously accepted.  We really appreciate this, thank you David and team.

Wrapping up, remember hard work and role models.  Now, “oh the humanity!”  I voice annotated to Siri, my son’s favorite after dinner treat, and this is what appeared up on my iPhone family grocery list, “Eminem ice cream cones.” And for the record, this is the reason I worked in Voorhees, NJ once a week for several years.  I’m thinking they should make this a daily twitter campaign…

Did you see the 7th fence jumper this year at the White House?  I’m at a loss to understand this.  Was his barrel in the repair shop preventing his Niagara Falls trip?  He probably decided to scale the fence to see what the view was like on the other side and figured he‘d just hit Ctrl-Z.

SurfacePro 3

I’m using a Surface 3 now – love it.  It’s as much as game changer as iPhones were to cell phones.  It gives me confidence in the Microsoft vision that I haven’t had in a long time.  I am mobile.
