The Last Stand (2013)

Director: Kim Jee-woon
Starring: Arnold Schwarzenegger, Forest Whitaker, Johnny Knoxville
The leader of a drug cartel busts out of a courthouse and speeds to the Mexican border, where the only thing in his path is a sheriff and his inexperienced staff.
Arnold Scwarzenegger’s return! Oh, well, what a pity it wasn’t a better film…
Let’s face it, this film was not great at all. Yet, it was entertaining – thanks to some great action sequences. Unfortunately they relied on action and Arnold to carry the film, but in this case it was simply not enough. The downright silly humor ruined the film. It was so tongue in cheek to an extent where the film just couldn’t be taken seriously.
Every time the film reached a point where I actually thought it was going somewhere, Johnny Knoxville appeared…oh boo, need I say more. The blend of action, gore, attempt at drama, and Knoxville’s over the top humor just didn’t gel, leaving me with a bad aftertaste. Credit where credit is due: the action was entertaining, and I love that car!!!
