Director: Ken Russell

Starring: Amanda Donohoe, Hugh Grant, Catherine Oxenberg

When an archaeologist uncovers a strange skull in foreign land, the residents of a near-by town begin to disappear, leading to further inexplicable occurrences.

Nowadays, the draw card for this movie would be Hugh Grant. But back then he wasn’t all that well known. It was clear, then, than he was destined to become a star, as his performance is head and shoulders above the rest, and he somehow seems out of place in this movie.

The performances by the other actors are very bad – especially Catherine Oxenburg as Eve. As for the film itself, its hard to describe what it was actually all about, as very little makes any sense. Call it cheesy, call it corny, call it weird – but whichever way you look at it, this is a very, very bad movie. Bad make-up. Bad visuals. Bad acting. Really silly story. Blasphemy abound, this surely must have been controversial at the time – for the few who watched it, that is. (Yup, no surprise this was a box office bomb).

‘The Lair of the White Worm’ was just stupid. Thankfully, I’ll no doubt forget this very soon. Ugh!

Would I watch it again? I’m sorry I did, so no!
