The KYNZI Report …

They say that success is when practice and preparation meets opportunity. Then the world has been practicing and prepping for the opportunity to experience Singer, Songwriter KYNZI for a minute. . .

As I enter the chosen location to conduct an interview, I see my subject with her mother/ manager in tow in conversation. I purposely observe them to see how their vibe is, so I know my boundaries before we get started. Its often the case when there is a “Momager” ( a term coined by Singer Brandy’s Mother/ Manager Sonja Norwood who infamously once stated ” I could sell my children to the Ocean”) involved, you must talk thru them. However with this interview, Mom was on her own groove and let the interview flow. It was apparent that KYNZI, had it down pat and under control. And Mom knew and respected what she was doing and had to say. Refreshing to see a young person so driven yet relaxed about her chosen life course. She clearly has herself in a pointed and focused mission.

Funny thing about artists. They have presence. That certain air that you are around something or someone special. You know something is special or going on with them when you see them or hear them speak. They are striking. whether its their look, or vibe of their drive. You know, Something is afoot. KYNZI, a 20 year old Singer/ Songwriter, arranger and model from Detroit, fits the bill in every way. like most young people has ambition and, knows her worth,  and values her talent. And has taken her goals very serious.  “I used to run thru my work in school. It came easily. My Mom would tell the teachers to give me something harder if the work I was given was proving to be too easy for me.” says the Triple threat artist who is adept at not just singing, but writing , and arranging.   Every step has been taken to nurture,

guide and prepare her for not just stardom, but for a career.  She is a veteran and student of the game in Detroit, starting off she attended the legendary Detroit School of Arts (DSA) where Aaliyah and more have honed and began their own ascensions.  “I used to watch my older sisters when they would put on their Beyonce DVD.. They were singing and enjoying it and soon I loved it too and said I wanna do that.” Says KYNZI about how the musical fire was lit by the Queen Bey. The Inspiration for a generation of young female artists. “My older sister went to DSA and I followed her there. Thinking it was gonna be singing in the hallways and everything, Little did I know it was a serious thing. They taught me arranging, theory and more. I still use a lot of what they taught me”. on her time at the Detroit School of Arts. It definitely was not “Fame” , but it got her ready. She continued on to Detroit Industry training entity Star Factory where she further emursed  herself in artist development and media training (She is a very articulate and engaging interview job well done!) She also sought out possible instruction at Detroit based DIME – Detroit Institute of Music Education to aid in her in learning about the business aspects of music in combination of her other endeavors in her education in music. Something no doubt derived from up home life where she is the daughter of a Teacher and a Doctor (Wholly Huxtable!!) where education was a very high priority. Add to her already stacked educational career, she was accepted and attended MSU Michigan State University for a time after High School, something she will finish at a later time.

Singing comes naturally and flows like the wind within the young artist. the Model thing came easy as well, yes she is a stunning and statuesque young lady, so modeling is an avenue that was available and worth partaking which she has and is excelling at. Print, runway the whole thing. And has built a good track record to boot. Physical aesthetics aside, thats just one layer of this very driven and talented young woman who is building a career as a solid artist as well. No Pretty Girl rock here. Theres more to her than what the camera could capture.

Releasing her first single and video for “Told You So” in 2019. The song was co wrote with another exceptional Detroit Producer, Quentin Dennard. In it we hear her urging her suitor to be careful not to buy into her so quickly.. Vocally She delivers, in a ethereal and confident tone reminiscent of Ashanti and Tamia. The song is definitely a bright and earnest rhythmic offering, that is also very Hustle/Line Dance worthy. The young singer is very aware of and respects being involved in her brand, taking time to learn not just singing, but arranging as well. In fact one of her proudest achievements, was her entry into TIDAL streaming services #TIDALUnplugged  Competition. She decided to perform Michael McDonald’s classic “Keep Forgettin”. Except her version was with  a string ensemble using an arrangement composed by the young vocalist herself. “For the competition, they wanted an acoustic performance. So instead of the traditional piano or guitar, I opted for a string ensemble , and to do an older song. I loved the experience and is one of my favorite things I’ve done so far.”, says the Talented young Vocalist. To date it has garnered some almost 300k views on Twitter. A strong number by any comparison. Very impressive for the young vocalist who cites songwriter  James Fauntleroy (Beyonce) and vocalist Allen Stone, Lizzo and Xavier Omar as favorites and inspirations. Like so many others, she wants the spotlight and is working towards that goal at all times. For her, there is no plan “B”. Music, is it. She feels making an alternate plan, takes away from the main goal which is music.

As we were winding down the interview. I wanted to know from her mother, how she handles such a driven and focused young lady at home. To which she said, she is still very much a teenager at heart. She knows what she wants with music, but from time to time she does jump on impulse..she is a creative by nature of being a Pisces,so one day wants to do nails, then sell real estate, always into improving on herself and discovering new talents. Ever seeking more education on her craft, she has been to the REVOLT Conference and taken her knowledge of the game as serious as the musical side. “This business is cutthroat. And I wanna be able to understand and hold a conversation on all levels. I want to be able to meet you where you are.” Wow.. from the mouths of what used to be Babes, this young lady is prepared to take on the world and mold it to her own path. She is every bit in the mold of her catalyst to music, Beyonce, in the fashion of being in charge and ready for the next level. She personifies what the band from Flint once called themselves, Ready For The World.. But, is the World ready for KYNZI?  We will see.. – Terry Martin for RnBINTheD.com
