The High Chaparral

We post this one today in conjunction with our post on the new book about Henry Darrow.

The High Chaparral (1967-1971) is one of the very first tv shows I can remember watching. (I have a distinct memory of the whole family watching it in prime time when I was about four years old).

Created by David Dortort (the man who created Bonanza) it featured Lief Erickson and Cameron Mitchell as a pair of Arizona ranchers who were brothers. Linda Cristal was Mitchell’s aristocratic Mexican wife; Darrow was her brother. It was a huge hit in its day, but has tumbled by the wayside. Tumbled…like a tumblin’ tumbleweed.
