The Good, The Bad, And The Eurogamer Expo

Theres nothing more poignant and sobering, than to be reminded of the looming visage of our own mortality. No, I didn’t encounter the Grimm Reaper, though there was a close call with an elderly gentleman who resembled my own conception of him/her/it. I was preparing to embark to 2012’s prestigious Eurogamer Expo, contriving to board on the next available train to London, when without provocation, almost simultaneously, all available trains had been cancelled due to a fatality on the tracks. I was heading excitedly for a day of indulgent gaming abuse and visually appealing retina stimulations, while some unfortunate soul was being informed of the tragic demise of a loved one, it’s always nice to have the delicate sense of tragic mortality reiterated at 9:30 in the morning. Such adverse events, though not directly influencing your motives, does sully the excitable purpose of your personality, and on the contrary does clarify the flickering freedom of normality afforded to us. But such tribulations should not be influences that dictate the course of your day, but rather incentives to strive to a more purposefully, favourable day, with an occasion of constituted gaming to banish the torturous isolating senses, that can manipulate ones cognitive functions.

With a more remorseful purpose, I arrived at the Expo with far less enthusiasm than I had previously exhibited when waking from my slumber, but no less determined to enjoy all the electrical activities afforded. Upon ingesting my nutritious Burger King breakfast burger, if Samuel L Jackson’s dietitianal credentials are to be believed, is the cornerstone to any nutritious breakfast, I arrived with nourishing fulfillment, but with a devouring requirement for gaming sustenance. I participated in many of the more relevant titles, which is never easy as your rushed on and off consoles, with only a glimpse into a titles true potential, all set for release in the not too distant future, I immediately begun gravitating to the surprisingly decadent DMC. Though formulaic, conventional and certainly retaining many of DMC’s characteristics, the demo was quick to demonstrate its own exhibited prowess. The trivialities that afflict a hack n slash game are still prevalent, but with the scrutiny leveled at Dante’s dramatic, aesthetic presentation subsides, perhaps this iteration can be enjoyed the way it was intended; as gory, unsophisticated fun.
Ni No Kuni, the first computer game influenced and created by Studio Ghibli, initially appears to be a Pokemon clone, is not only more aesthetically pleasing than Kat Dennings in a translucent bracer, but also far more tactically aware than I initially gave it credit for. It retains much of Studio Ghibli’s well formulated cuteness, but be vigilant, because its far from simple. Ratchet & Clank: Q force continues in the same, unfortunately predictable formula present in previous titles, where as Assassins Creed 3, Hitman Absolution, Dishonored and Aliens: Colonial marines, were all about as easy to access as a pair of bosoms restrained by a titanium bra, with just an oral aid to relinquish them, (apologies for my apparent fixation on a particularly part, of the female anatomy), which can be interpreted as my own, renowned lack patience, for customary lines.
But my weakened emotional state, was again pierced by the truly inspiring work conducted by special effects, a charity striving to aid disadvantage individuals overcome the disabling effects a disability can have, on participating in a computer game. It really validates the more

nurturing side that helps the industry function, with a touching video compendium, demonstrating the exceptional work being engineered by such generous and determined volunteers, all in aid of disadvantaged individuals, prevented by crippling manoeuvrability disorders, loss of appendages, birth defects, meningitis or any number of deprecating afflictions, from playing computer games. The work being conducted is exceptional brilliant, helping make gaming more accessible to children and adults alike, and experience the same systematic joy of virtual accomplishments, we all take for granted.
