Director: Michael Chaves

Starring: Patrick Wilson, Vera Farmiga, Ruairi O’Connor

The Warrens investigate a murder that may be linked to a demonic possession.

Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga return for another haunted adventure as demonologists Ed and Lorraine Warren. This time they’ve been called for the exorcism of an 8-yeard old boy, David Glatzel. David’s sister’s boyfriend, Arne Johnson, confronts the demon during the exorcism, asking it to leave David and take him instead – which it does. During the exorcism, Ed suffers a major heart attack.

The films in The Conjuring universe have been consistent in delivering disturbing images of demonic possession. The contortion scenes are bound to make you squirm! These scenes are incredibly well done and cringe worthy in a good way. Many of the film’s nightmarish scenes reminded me of ‘A Nightmare on Elm Street’. (The water bed scene is a perfect example.)

Demonic possession in this case is the result of a curse. Adding satanic reference to the possession made me loose some interest in the movie. There were a few other elements in the film also I didn’t like, and in general I didn’t find the movie as captivating as the previous (The Conjuring) films. The first ‘The Conjuring’ film was still by far the best and most memorable. I enjoyed the fact the possession was limited mostly to the home of the Perron family. In ‘The Conjuring: The Devil made me do it’ it was all over the place, with too many characters becoming possessed. In fact, there was so much going on here, I doubt I’m going to remember much of this movie.

The film does state this to be based on a true story. Having done some research, the possession of David Glatzel and Arne Johnson is pretty accurate. The rest of the events are fictional.

‘The Conjuring: The Devil made me do it’ was a box office success, earning $206.4 million on a $39 million budget.

Would I watch it again? No.
