The Coldest Girl: A book review

I was pleasantly surprised to find out that a friend of mine had published a children’s book: The Coldest Girl. The author, Matt Hooper, was a student of mine at Kingswood University back… back in the day… and it turns out that he and I share a love for this genre of literature. He not only reads them to his kids, he started writing them for his kids as well. And now he’s published!
Meira is a little girl who was literally born cold. He loves the snow, loves the ice, and loves the cold temperatures. She will play outside all day without a coat on in the dead of winter. It’s enough to stress out any mom who is worried about her child getting sick, but that’s who Meria is. And as you read the book you love her more with every turn of the page. It is a whimsical and silly-hearted, but Hooper gives the story the charming simplicity it needs for kids to both understand and follow.
On top of this, the artwork for The Coldest Girl is so great! Char Black is the artist, and complements the story perfectly. Char is another person I have had the privilege of knowing many years ago, so I was familiar with her talent. Each page is beautiful, just as a good children’s picture book should be.
