The “Chain of Fools” Audiobook is Out!

Good news — even to me! It seems the audiobook version of my 2013 book Chain of Fools: Silent Comedy and Its Legacies from Nickelodeons to Youtubehas been out for two weeks, and nobody told me!
That’s right — an audio book about silent movies! Hear about comedy that’s designed for the eye! Picture the pratfalls! Visualize the violence! You may wish to mix this experience with Magic Mushrooms!

It’s narrated by me, of course, with cameos by Jenny Lee Mitchell and John Towsen, and is the work of many months. Hopefully it’ll appeal to those who prefer to listen than to scan pages, or who can hear better than they can see, or who have limited free time and must experience their books during a commute. It sounds trippier than it is — at bottom it’s really just a history and appreciation of slapstick comedy. I worked hard on both the writing and the reading!
Many thanks to producer Gary Hardcastle for helping me get this off the ground and out the door!

Some places to get it:
If you prefer to read it the old fashioned way, and/or want to learn more about the book, go here.
And don’t forget my other books, which, knock wood, may well get their own audio versions down the pike:
My latest: The Marx Brothers Miscellany: A Subjective Appreciation of the World’s Greatest Comedy Team (2024).
My first: No Applause, Just Throw Money: The Book That Made Vaudeville Famous (2005)
And my smallest: Rose’s Royal Midgets and Other Little People in Vaudeville (2020)
