The Brothers Grimm (2005)

Director: Terry Gilliam
Starring: Matt Damon, Heath Ledger, Monica Bellucci, Lena Headey
Will and Jake Grimm are traveling con-artists who encounter a genuine fairy-tale curse which requires true courage instead of their usual bogus exorcisms.
Wizards, witches and popular fairy tale characters come together to create a fantasy adventure filled with humour, action, adventure, and stunning visual effects.
The film blends familiar stories like Jack and the Beanstalk, Sleeping Beauty, Little Red Riding Hood, Cinderella, Rapunzel and Hansel & Gretel to create an original story. Matt Damon and Heath Ledger star as con artist brothers Wilhelm and Jacob Grimm. As their reputation precedes them, they move from village to village to eradicate evil. But they use tricks to stage their own villains, and the gullible villagers hail them as heroes when the defeat the foes.
But when they are hired to find missing children, they are up against more than they bargained for. They venture into an enchanted, dangerous forest together with Angelika – who knows the forest – and a few soldiers. They soon realize they are out of their comfort zone as they now face a real threat, and their lives might be in danger. There are a few character twists, which I enjoyed.
With the forest coming to life, the visual and practical effects are astounding. There are moving trees, a werewolf, a cursed queen, and danger lurking around every corner – all of which makes for a fascinating fantasy adventure. The film boasts an awesome production design, and fantastic set decoration.
‘The Brothers Grimm’ is a lighthearted movie to be enjoyed by young and old alike. So sit back and allow yourself to be transported to a fantasy world.
At the box office, ‘The Brothers Grimm’ earned $105.3 million on an $80 million budget.
Would I watch it again? Yes.
