The Boy Behind the Door (2020)

Directors: David Charbonier, Justin Powell

Starring: Lonnie Chavis, Ezra Dewey, Kristin Bauer van Straten

After Bobby and his best friend Kevin are kidnapped and taken to a strange house in the middle of nowhere, Bobby manages to escape. But then he hears Kevin’s screams for help and realizes he can’t leave his friend behind.

The first thing that grabbed me about ‘The Boy behind the door’, was the stunning cinematography. Then I noticed the great editing, and the fantastic performances from the child actors.

Best friends Bobby and Kevin are kidnapped. Kevin is taken into a big house while Bobby is left in the trunk of a car, from where he manages to escape. Saving his friend is not all that easy, though…. Kevin is locked in a room, where he is chained to the floor.

Almost the entire movie is set inside the old house. This claustrophobic setting makes it all the more suspenseful. This limited cast, limited locations movie was full of surprises. Hell, this was unpredictable!! This is a true nail-biter with a simple premise and a clear antagonist.

The final act is a rollercoaster ride of suspense, with a strong survival element. ‘The Boy behind the door’ also sends out a powerful message of friendship and loyalty. This is a darn good movie!

Would I watch it again? Yes.
