The Beta-Tester Experience With StatEasy Reflected

ISSUES WITH NEW SOFTWARE VERSIONS

I understand issues can occur when a new software version comes out.  I experienced this at the beginning of my Masters course.  Both Dartfish TeamPro and SportsCode Elite released version 6 and 8 respectively.  Both had bugs and I certainly tweeted my displeasure about Dartfish.  See below:

My displease got a response from Dartfish themselves.  See below:

I even got an emails from Benoit Ammann, UK & Ireland Country Manager of Dartfish, and Pascal Binggeli, a Dartfish Software Developer, about it.

THE BETA-TESTER EXPERIENCE

Dartfish was fully tested at this point and most of the bugs should have been resolved.  That testing period is known as beta-testing and I unwittingly become a beta-tester for StatEasy (version 16).  They allowed me to use this version because of an eagerly awaited update that allowed me to view season statistics (something I asked for).  This allowed me to produce a Super 8s Top 10 List.

SO WHAT HAVE I LEARNT FROM THIS EXPERIENCE?

* Expect things to go wrong and fixes not to be quick.  This is what happens when you start breaking the software. * Seeing the processes of a software programmer.  Not that I know what most of it means though. * Learning how to describe things clearly and concisely.  It would be much easier if my netbook had the snipping tool function. * I need a proper laptop.  My netbook is performing admirably but sometimes it is just not man enough to handle certain things.
