This was our Independence Day topic, therefore the theme.  Freedom is hardly ever just the literal context.  Most of us, to an extent, feel trapped in our own lives.  We find solace in daydreaming about alternate realities, just outside of our reach.

June 12, 2008 → The Top Ten Signs That You Are NOT Free

  1. Chuchay – I feel trapped in my relationship with my husbnd whom I love, but who doesn’t love me because he couldn’t let go of his previous marriage, which is NOT helping ours.

  2. D.vet – We can’t go out on dates because we have 3 kids: ages 8, 3, and 7 months old.

  3. Onanymous – I’m not free because sometimes I wake up in the morning with my feet and hands tied to the 4 corners of the bed, with my wife standing beside the bed with a whip on her left hand and whipped cream in the other.

  4. MNEMONIC – Being in a loveless marriage, but can’t do anything about it because your dying father’s last request was to keep the marriage going.

  5. Scrambledegg – Being a self-proclaimed metrosexual. In truth ang tawag dun: baklang maarte.

  6. Espeks/Raymond/CBboating – Credit cards make you feel trapped.

  7. Gabs – Being 23 and still unable to reveal my true sexuality with my parents because they always change the topic whenever I bring it up.

  8. Bottom Dweller – You are not free if you have the “grass is greener syndrome”. You will never find contentment.

  9. Jedi Mstr – I feel trapped in a job that I don’t really like. I was forced to take this job to help my sister finish med school, sacrificing my own dreams of going to law school.

  10. DontUseMyName – My girlfriend lent me her car for us to use and so I could bring home. Now I can’t schedule my own “lakad” and I lose every argument whenever she brings that fact up.

  11. Lala – I feel trapped because I love my boyfriend to death, but all my close friends hate him to death.

  13. RC N CESS – I am not free, particularly at work, especially wen my BOSS’ WIFE prowls around the office like a roaring lion, seeking whomever she may devour!

  14. Astroboy – I feel like I’m not free kasi ang sikip ng pantalon ko!

  15. Jaguar – I am trapped in marrying a woman who does not know anything in life and still communicates with her ex. Even though she is a physician, she’s a lousy wife and mother.

  16. LOipogi – A male person is not yet free if he describes himself as “bi-curious”, or “straight-tripper” or simply “bisexual”.

  17. Dru – I feel like im trapped in a bad dream when I see the words “hottie” or “princess” or “hunk” on someone’s shirt, yet their face totally disagrees w/ it.

  18. Juggernaut – I’m trapped in the aftermath of a fire that gutted our house.  We lost everything.  I’m in lombo because it’s so hard to rebuild a life.

  19. Bull Ball – I’m trapped in a prison of self-hatred.

  20. No name – I feel I’m not free because right after doing “it”, my partner brings out her purse and pays me.
