All my life, I’ve been a follower of rules. I’ve always been a teacher’s pet, I’ve always been the obedient (albeit spoiled) son, I’ve been the model citizen, following every rule and regulation of God and man. But boy, the few times I went against the grain, I really went off the beaten path! But let’s not get into details. Suffice it to say, I’ve done my share of rebelling against popular opinion. Not just to be different, but because some rules just didn’t make sense to me. But to be fair, I knew the rules by heart and understood them fully before I decided to break them.

April 3, 2008 → The Top Ten Rules You Disagree With

  1. Laklakbu – My dad is a Maranao. They’re closely knit and we’ve been taught that we are obligated to contribute in weddings and funerals of relatives even if they’re 3rd degree extended family na.

  2. Shining – Some teachers in our school have this rule: no book, no exam. And take note, no 2nd hand books. You should buy brand new books from them.

  3. No name – Marrying a non-Muslim is a strict no-no. I married a Christian and I was told I’m somewhat disowned. Now, I definitely feel that I’m not recognized by my strict uncles.

  4. Twylyt – The rule that it’s always the motorists fault when they run over stupid pedestrians who cross the street when they were not supposed to. Unlike in other countries.

  5. No name – That trannies should still use the men’s toilet. It’s awkward when guys coming in would look at the sign again to check then make insulting faces.

  6. Curly – Fingerprint scan as our bundy clock. Our boses are exempted from it.

  7. Mong – That you have to pay the squatters who live on your land for them to vacate your property. Libre na nga ang rent nila, babayaran mo pa sila para humanap ng ibang land na titirhan.

  8. John Roll – I hate the rule in our tropa na kapag heartbroken ka, dapat magpapainom ka! Pati ba nman bulsa ko pasasakitin pa din?

  9. Shinobi – Marriage licenses, like any other license, should have an expiration date. It’s the couple’s obligation if they want to renew it or not.

  10. Loi Pogi – Newton’s law that no 2 things can occupy the same space at the same time: Try mong mag-MRT pag peak hours.

  11. Bonique – My parents’ house rule stating no watching TV from Monday to Thursday until we finished college.

  12. Diemyrus – In Pasig, private employees are required yearly to get a sanitary permit from the city hall even if business are not into handling food. It requires x-rays for all employees sometimes twice a year. It is RUMORED that the mayor’s family owns mobile clinics that go around the pasig business district.

  13. Ameow – I pity my friends who are Chinese because they have to have Chinese boyfriends/girlfriends. They already preconditioned themselves not to fall in love withe non-Chinese people.

  14. Shining – In my high school, there’s a ceiling grade of 90%. Our director believes that no student can actually get a grade higher than that. And if they did, they’re probably teachers’ pets only.

  15. Skye – When I was in college, our family had a rule that only my bro and male cousins are given cars, are allowed to date any time and sometimes even given additional allowance.

  16. No name – I think Jessica Zafra got it right. Only people with an IQ greater than 100 should be allowed to vote!

  17. No name – Guards will stop Pinoys from taking pictures of Intramuros or Fort Santiago or Nayong Clark w/ their dslr cameras, but will allow foreigners to shoot using the same kind of camera.

  18. Jools – I disagree with this: Once kids graduate from collage, they should take care of the family. It should never be an obligation.

  19. Loipogi – I totally disagree w/ the church rule that denies suicide victims a requiem mass. We don’t know what they’ve been through that led them to end their own lives.

  20. Marcus – Drivers shouldn’t be allowed to reserve parking slots by using a passenger who gets out of car, then stands in one. It’s not fair to drivers who are alone. When I one I start to park in that slot and tell the girl (scumbags usually use girls): “Miss, para sa kotse yang slot, hindi para sa tao. Sabihin mo dun sa kasama mo.”
