THA DOGG POUND- WE ALL WE GOT REVIEW by King Eric

Ever since Snoop Dogg made the aquisition to acquire the rights to the name of “Death Row Records. It seemingly gave a new breath of fresh air and a resurgence to the West Coast. Especially fans whom grew up in the 80s and 90s. While there’s still alot of work to get done on the business side, It still gave a new sense of urgency to the veteran emcees to release new music. Plus with less label restriction and more creative control, The OG’s no longer feel that they have to really conform.
RBX released his highly anticipated return album “Hibernation Shivers” which is a ode to the old Death Row Recipe, Snoop Dogg also gave people a taste with his release titled BODR a month after purchasing the name. So people were curious to see how Tha Dogg Pound was gonna sound in 2024. While these guys aren’t what they are in 95(due to age) They still have that musical ear and know how to still rap.
The album’s first two Singles “We Da Hardest” produced by DJ Premier featuring RBX, and Lady of Rage along with the album title single “We All We Got” featuring Tha Eastsidaz is the perfect call home to what would be considered a special project.
Another surprise many people may find about “W.A.W.G.” is Daz Dillenger did not contribute to the production side of the album and just wanted to rap more. Then to probably make people feel a bit more concerned about the direction of the album is that it was completed in 21 days. People feared it was gonna be a rushed product. But listening to this album over.. They kept it true to the West Coast formula and people like Mike N Keys, Battlecat, Rick Rock, Soopafly, and Jelly Roll along with DJ Premier. The results is that this album is crafted with experimental sounds(Favorite Color Blue) After Hours(which actually features a stellar verse from Da Baby) and Grown Up which showcases the trio on their grown up vibe.
But it’s when the album keep true to the OG recipe is where WAWG bangs out. Songs such as “House Party”, “Imma Dogg”,” LA Kind of Love, and “Inside of Her”(featuring Butch Cassidy) stays true to that classic West Coast Vibe. They also found ways to smooth it out on “Need some Space”, and “The Weekend” There isn’t too many guest appearances(aside from Da Baby and the Death Row suspects) so that gives both Daz and Kurupt a opportunity to still show that they still have it. People may complain about that Kurupt isn’t as sharp lyrically like before(possibly due to health and age) but he still shows here that he can still make good music nevertheless and Daz does a great job of playing along side with Kurupt. The chemistry is definitely still in tact.
Overall this album turned out to be surprisingly one of the best albums of the year! The West Coast is regaining alot of momentum with their veterans movement and WAWG is another homerun in terms of musical direction.
