Tasting Notes: Wantsum: Miller’s Mirth

Wantsum: Miller’s Mirth (England: Bitter: 4.2% ABV)
Visual: Still clear golden amber, bubbly froth of off white head.
Nose: Light toffee and vanilla. Pineapple hops. Buttered popcorn. Raspberry jam if you get your nose deep in.
Body: Pineapple, some bitterness. Light grapefruit into medium bitterness in the mid body. Quite fluffy feel, Slight sour touch. Raspberry.
Finish: bitter but slick. Greenery, slightly grassy. Growing syrup sweet touch. Malt loaf. Light pink grapefruit.
Conclusion: Fresh and bitter, quite set as a medium punch citrus delivery system. Lots of nice little touches about when you pay attention to it – unusual fruit elements and slight sourness.
It takes what feels like slight citrus American hop style and marries it well to the real ale style and feel. The only problem is it need s touch more definition to the individual flavours. This isn’t a huge problem if you are having it to relax and unwind, but hits it if treated as a contemplation ale.
So not bad, good to session, but its not in the great beer range.
Background: had from cask at a local pub, nothing is known about the brewery apart from the immense number of puns on its name that came about. Generally was well received by everyone I was out with that night.
